Background of the Study
Inclusive teaching strategies have emerged as a critical component of modern educational practice, aimed at ensuring equitable learning opportunities for all students regardless of their abilities or backgrounds. In Ilorin West LGA, Kwara State, the adoption of inclusive education policies has been driven by the recognition that traditional, segregated educational models often marginalize students with diverse learning needs (Oke, 2023). Inclusive teaching practices involve adapting curriculum, instructional methods, and assessment techniques to accommodate a wide range of learners, including those with disabilities and special educational needs (Fadare, 2024). Recent studies underscore the benefits of inclusive classrooms, noting improvements in social integration, academic performance, and overall classroom dynamics (Ibrahim, 2025). In this context, the effectiveness of these strategies is influenced by multiple factors, including teacher training, resource availability, and broader socio-cultural attitudes toward diversity. Research in similar settings has shown that when educators implement inclusive practices, students exhibit higher levels of engagement and academic achievement while also developing greater empathy and collaborative skills (Nwosu, 2023). However, challenges persist such as insufficient support systems and a lack of comprehensive training programs for teachers, which may hinder the full realization of inclusive education (Adekunle, 2024). In Ilorin West LGA, ongoing reforms have led to the implementation of various inclusive strategies, yet there is a dearth of systematic research evaluating their overall effectiveness. This study seeks to fill this gap by providing a thorough examination of how inclusive teaching strategies are implemented and their impact on student learning outcomes. By analyzing both qualitative and quantitative data, the research aims to provide insights into best practices, potential obstacles, and the overall efficacy of these approaches in fostering an inclusive educational environment (Chinwe, 2025). The study also considers the role of policy frameworks and community support in shaping the success of inclusive education initiatives.
Statement of the Problem
Although inclusive teaching strategies are widely advocated as a means to promote educational equity, their implementation in Ilorin West LGA, Kwara State, has not been comprehensively evaluated. Many educators in the region continue to rely on conventional teaching methods that do not fully accommodate the diverse needs of all learners, leading to disparities in academic performance and social integration (Obi, 2023). Moreover, while policies supporting inclusive education have been introduced, practical challenges such as teacher training, resource allocation, and curriculum adaptation remain significant obstacles (Olawale, 2024). The gap between policy and practice is evident as many schools struggle to effectively integrate inclusive strategies due to limited support and infrastructural constraints. This disconnect results in missed opportunities for fostering a truly inclusive learning environment that benefits both students with special needs and their peers (Uche, 2025). Additionally, there is a lack of empirical data on how these strategies impact student engagement and learning outcomes in the local context. Without a clear understanding of the effectiveness of current inclusive practices, stakeholders are left without a robust framework for improving educational quality and equity. Therefore, this study seeks to address these issues by critically examining the effectiveness of inclusive teaching strategies in local schools, assessing both the benefits and challenges inherent in their implementation (Emeka, 2023).
